MYGCNOW CONSTRUCTION HOMEOWNER GUIDES
Prepare to compare contractors and trades
A useful comparison goes beyond the total at the bottom of a proposal. Understand the work, exclusions, assumptions and responsibilities before deciding which team fits your home.
Compare the same work
Align scope, materials, allowances, site protection, cleanup and exclusions across proposals. A lower price may cover a different amount of work; ask questions before treating two totals as directly comparable.
Verify credentials directly
Use the directory’s official credential links and confirm current registration, relevant licensing and insurance for the work being proposed. Directory information is a starting point and may change; inclusion is not a guarantee or endorsement.
Discuss communication and changes
Ask who supervises the work, how you will receive updates and how concerns or changes are recorded. Read the written agreement and confirm the process for scheduling, payments and resolving questions.
Questions to bring to your next conversation
- Do these proposals include the same scope and materials?
- Which credentials apply to this work, and are they current?
- Who will communicate with you during the project?
