MYGCNOW CONSTRUCTION HOMEOWNER GUIDES

Decide what to do yourself and when to call a trade

A demonstration can help you understand a task, but your home may have different materials, systems or access. Plan the work before buying materials or opening up a finished surface.

Match the demonstration to your situation

Search by task and material, then review the video’s scope and the library’s preparation notes. A visible finished result does not show every condition that may exist behind it.

Check the limits before you begin

Identify permit questions, concealed conditions and work involving structural, electrical, gas or other specialist systems. Use qualified help when the task or the property requires it; a video is not a substitute for an inspection or professional scope.

Keep the overall project coordinated

If you plan to handle part of a contracted remodel yourself, discuss sequencing, access, protection and responsibilities with the team first. Document what each party is providing so work is not omitted or duplicated.

Questions to bring to your next conversation

  • Does the video match your material and system?
  • What needs inspection, testing or specialist review?
  • How will your work fit the rest of the project?
